This longterm project started with an ethnography at a ward of a nursing home that is specialized in the care for vegetative patients. We observed, described and recorded various mundane activities of the daily care of severely disabled people. By using various means of recording (still and serial photography, video, audio, field notes, interviews) we delineated our versions of collective decision making processes in the clinical context.
This phase was followed by collaborations with the multidisciplinary staff where various sub-projects emerged as there were activities for nursing staff training, communication issues concerning family members, research in nursing, the introduction of a neurobehavioral assessment technique.
In the meantime we constructed a „protocol–fresco“, a kind of praxiography, that should give an impression of decision making procedures in the clinical context. This protocol–fresco was made publicly accessible in 2005 and 2006. See also:
